Come October 6, Compass Church will be moving into the Grace UMC building at 521 Caruthers in Cape Girardeau. We will be sharing the space with Grace UMC as two separate churches. We realize this move likely raises many questions, so we’ve done our best to answer the most common ones here. If you have further questions, feel to reach out using the contact form on this page.
While we are looking to stay at 521 Caruthers for at least 2 years, Compass Church remains in prayer for God to guide us.
Compass services will be at 11 am on Sundays, and Grace UMC services will be at 9 am.
Yes, Grace UMC has ample space for each congregation to separately serve the needs of various children’s ministries.
Our nursery will be open and available during Compass’ entire service.
There will be room for many things, but Compass Church does not plan on having Sunday School.
We will be forming small groups that may meet during the week, keep an eye out for sign ups!
No, Compass Church and Grace UMC will remain unique Methodist congregations. We will have separate worship services and separate pastors.
We will, however, continue to listen for God’s leading in ways that we can work together.
A strength of the Methodist denomination is its commitment to connectionism. Both congregations will carefully and prayerfully evaluate the shared space arrangements and adjust as the Holy Spirit guides future creative approaches to supportive ministry possibilities. This includes ways to best steward our resources and support one another in ministry.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:19
We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider how each congregation can continue to reach new people for Jesus Christ and come alongside one another while living out the unique callings of each Church.
